Lasik Myth: Will I Always Have to Use Eyedrops?

Myth: I will have to use eyedrops forever…

Is it possible?  Yes.  Is it common?  No.

It’s rare for any patient to require eye drops after the first month.  Your eyes are sturdier than they look, and given time, they will heal.

The Healing Process

Immediately after surgery, your eyes are indeed tender and admittedly vulnerable.  Like with any surgical procedure, they must avoid all trauma, including eye rubbing.  In a few weeks, the cornea’s outer layer will begin its process of regeneration.

When you have a bruise, do you typically worry that it will never heal?  Your eyes are the same way.  After getting a little roughed up in laser surgery (that typically has very little discomfort), it will mend.  By roughly three months, your eye’s corneal flap will strengthen.

Nothing to Fear

When it comes to Lasik surgery, there are no needles.  There are no stitches.  This isn’t a strenuous procedure.  Laser technology takes care of the entire operation, with everything specially tailored for each person’s prescription.  If, for any reason, your surgery undertook a brief period of suspension, you could pick up where you last left off with no harm done.  You won’t suffer from permanent dryness and you definitely won’t need to use eyedrops forever.

So, again.  Is it possible?  Yes, but it’s also possible that an earthquake will hit tomorrow or it will rain diamonds on Neptune (and yes, this is a true fact).
