Should I Expect to Be Patched Up after Laser Eye Surgery?

There are a whole lot of things patients think about whenever they start to come to terms with their visual miscues. Wearing glasses may not be the end of the world, but not being able to see for the next few days may be a very big issue for some patients. This comes across potential clients’ minds quite often before correcting their vision with laser eye surgery. It is sad to hear too when patients come to Caster Eye Center with a misconception in their mind, but we take the time to help them understand the truth behind it all.

One of the biggest concerns patients have in mind when they think about Lasik treatment is what they can expect to see immediately after surgery. This is completely normal to have in mind, especially if you have never researched the procedure before. However, many patients just naturally think that their eyes are undergoing a strenuous procedure that involves needles , stitching and bandages. This is not how we will correct and stabilize your vision. The way we initiate vision correction is with modifying the shape of the corner with modern laser technology that is catered to your prescription.

Should you still find yourself concerned with the effects immediately after Lasik, it pays off to schedule a consultation to learn from Dr. Caster and his staff.

Lasik Myth – You Can’t See Right after Surgery

Right after the laser vision correction, you get up, walk out of the room and you can see. Things are a little fuzzy (driving is not advised), but by the next morning almost all of our patients are driving and back at work! There are no eye patches or hefty bandages to wear for a week. It is common for a patient’s vision to fluctuate at times due to the after effects of dry eyes. However, patients should know that complications are very rare, especially when performed by an expert laser eye surgeon.

Symptoms that Need a Surgeon’s Attention:

  • Discomfort that gets worse after the first week of surgery
  • Significant reduction in vision
  • Unnatural discharge, redness, or swelling

Our approach and after care instructions have advanced tremendously to maintain the high level of patient satisfaction that everyone deserves, but every patient should ask their surgeon about any follow-up symptoms to look out for.
