Intralase or any other form of Lasik does not cause presbyopia or speed it up.
Anyone who has excellent distance vision who is 45 or older has some presbyopia and has some trouble seeing up close. If you have on glasses or contacts to see far away, you can take them off to see up close, which is something that you cannot do if you have your distance correction fixed with Lasik and no onger wear glasses or contacts.

We don’t know why some people have a regression. It is less likely that it will happen after your enhancement.

If you can read clearly up close now WITHOUT your glasses, you will be able to that for the rest of your life if you don’t have surgery. If you have surgery, then it is like wearing the glasses all the time, and you can’t take them off. Thus you will need to put on readers in your late 40s, unless we develop a cure for that problem.

Personally, I do not believe that there is any difference.

You could probably resume work within a few days. Although I have treated pathologists, and radiologists, I do worry that a small decrease in the quality of your vision (which is definitely possible) could adversely affect your job performance.

It is okay to have the surgery.

This should get better in a few weeks or months.
Andrew Caster, MD
Yes.

I would abstain for 1 week before and after.

There should be no hurry in making your decision, and I would first eliminate any center that tried to pressure you– they are not interested in your best interests. There is disagreement as to which is better. I suggest that you research a little more.

There are differences in opinion on this point. I recommend 10 days out for soft lenses and at least 6 weeks for gas permeable.
Andrew Caster, MD
Ity may. It may be better for you to have Lasek rather than Lasik.
