Alternatives to Lasik
Lasik is something you want to have, not something you have to have. For those who want to move beyond contact lenses and glasses in order to see well, Lasik is a wonderful opportunity to substantially improve your life.
Other procedures are available that also correct vision and in some situations these may be more appropriate. Phakic implants such as the ICL involve placing a plastic lens inside the eye to correct the vision. This is considerably more invasive than Lasik, but may be appropriate for specific people.
The natural lens of the eye can be removed and replaced with a plastic lens. If the natural lens is clear, as in a younger person, this procedure is known as clear lens extraction. If the natural lens is cloudy (a cataract is present), it is known as a cataract removal.
Clear plastic lenses, known as inlays, can also be placed within the cornea.
During your consultation, we will discuss with you the various options that are available to you for your specific visual needs.
